We listen to callers who are lonely, depressed, anxious, afraid or just need to talk. We also provide an information and referral service that links individuals to the community programs that can best help them with their needs.
Whether it's depression or suicide, dating or drugs, family
squabbles, financial troubles, a crisis situation or an everyday
problem - CONTACT Help line is here to listen and care 24
hours a day.
Active Listening
Our basic skill at CONTACT is active listening, a skill which is person-centered, feeling-centered, and present-centered. Listening actively requires that we be fully available to, but remain separate from, our callers. Our volunteers assist callers to work through their problems and examine potential solutions, unencumbered by personal bias. Callers then have the satisfaction that they have found their own answers. Our listening, then, becomes a resource to be used by callers as needed - a gentling factor in times of stress, a process which brings clarity into confusion, a stimulation in moments of discovery. Because callers are assured of confidentiality and can remain anonymous if they choose, they can feel free to discuss deeply personal problems. Active listening requires a decision to listen - to disengage from personal concerns and viewpoints - to make oneself available.
CONTACT's service is unique in the Chattahoochee Valley area. It is the only telephone agency that responds to such a broad spectrum of needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
TEEN TALK HELPLINE
Teen Talk HelpLine (706-322-2151) provides teens in our community with a place to talk about the numerous stressors they face everyday. Teen Talk HelpLine responds to calls from youths with emotional and interpersonal problems through its telephone listening service. We are staffed by volunteer high school students who have completed an extensive training program. Teen Talk HelpLine addresses important issues including suicide prevention, drug use, child abuse, depression, school pressure, peer pressure, family issues, relationships, etc…through both the telephone helpline and community outreach presentations at schools and youth groups throughout the Chattahoochee Valley area.
Teen Talk HelpLine services are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. Callers never have to share their names and volunteers never use their names. Volunteers never pass judgment, share personal information, or opinions. They are available to help the callers help themselves. If a volunteer is not able to help she/he is equipped with numerous community resources to provide the caller with any information they may need. You may also contact a teen volunteer by email.
Teen Talk HelpLine operates Monday through Friday from 4 - 8 pm. If help is needed outside these hours, our parent organization, CONTACT HelpLine
(706-327-3999) is there to answer calls and provide support. HelpLine volunteers have undergone the same extensive training and are able to provide the same caring ear as Teen Talk HelpLine volunteers.
